Origin of Moroni
From French Moroni, from Ngazidja Comorian Mroni, from mroni (“at the river”).
Possibly equivalent to Etymology 1 through Joseph Smith hearing of the Comorian city and transferring the name to the angel. Alternatively equivalent to Moron + ־י, the former being a place name in the Book of Mormon and the latter being a Hebrew attributive suffix.
