Origin of Savage Islands

Calque of Portuguese Ilhas Selvagens. According to R. Hennig, on old maps may be known as Satanazes, St. Luis and Salirosa, as a result of misspellings of its name, although the real islands were probably discovered somewhat after the Satanazes name occurs for the first time, being only hypothetical before it.
