Origin of lote
From Middle English loten, lotien, from Old English *lotian, a variant (influenced by Old English lot (“fraud; deceit”)) of lutian (“to lie hid; be concealed; lurk; skulk; be latent”), from Proto-West Germanic *lutōn, from Proto-Germanic *lutōną (“to conceal; hide; lurk”). Cognate with Gothic 𐌻𐌿𐍄𐍉𐌽 (lutōn, “to deceive”).
From Latin lotus, from Ancient Greek λωτός (lōtós, “lotus”). Doublet of lotus.
